Mesa Farm Market

Utah's Route 12 is the most beautiful stretch of roadway I've ever driven through. The scenery is unbelievable--much more diverse than you would expect in 122 miles, passing through desert, rivers, canyons, cliffs, mountains, and...Mesa Farm Market.

We needed coffee. We were on the road at 7am and couldn't think of ingesting any more of the Folgers instant crap we'd bought for camping. Then, out of nowhere, Mesa Farm Market appeared. "Kaffee Coffee House" and "Fresh Baked Bread," it said. Huh? Really? In the middle of nowhere? We made a u-turn immediately. I didn't even care that kaffee in Utah generally tastes like rusty bucket water. It was better than nothing.

But rusty bucket water it certainly was not. We got out of our car and it was like stepping into a dream! A very happy border collie jumping around + beautiful morning light + (I kid you not) baby goats ("mehhhh!") rounding the mountain (okay maybe not a mountain exactly but they were running somewhere) = Christine's city slicker fantasy come true.

We ate cinnamon rolls, drank melon smoothies, and sipped the wonderful coffee brewed one cup at a time by Randy, the owner/farmer. Everything was organic, homemade, and delicious. Randy let us try his fresh goat cheese, just-picked peaches, and bread that he'd baked. We bought all of it to take for lunch later that day.

My photos do not do justice to this organic oasis (I was too occupied with breakfast and playing with the dog to focus). If you are passing through this part of Utah, please visit this place. It is my favorite memory from our trip.
